Please join us on Monday, May 29, 2017 for the Lohman Memorial Day Patriotic Remembrance. The ceremony, designed to show dedication and appreciation to local veterans and members of the military will begin at 11:00 AM promptly. This is a free and family-friendly community event open to the entire public. The remembrance will feature posting of our National's Colors by Civil Air Patrol—Ormond Beach Composite Squadron; a Wreath Laying Ceremony; Playing of Taps by Volusia County Sheriff's Association; rifle salute by VFW 1590-Honor Guard and the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree-Assembly 0165 Color Corps, a Missing Man formation flyover by Spruce Creek Gaggle Flight and more. The Remembrance will feature the Champions of Freedom Presentation; a special commemoration.. This component of the program will highlight local veterans who served and sacrificed to defend our freedom. A 50 foot A time of meet and greet with veterans and members of the military will follow the remembrance. The Remembrance will also include the Youth Essay Contest Awards Ceremony, awarding cash prizes to Volusia County finalists in the 2nd annual Lohman Community Outreach Essay Contest titled, ‘The True Meaning of Memorial Day.’ The contest, open to Volusia County middle and high school students was established to create an educational awareness involving youth in Volusia County communities so that they could learn more about the true meaning of Memorial Day. A total of six cash prizes will be awarded. Following the program, picnic lunch will be provided for all.
